COLOSSIANS 1:23
If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;
Lightning arresters installed on power lines are an important piece of equipment. The design of the arrestor would be to hook up the ground wire to the grounding lug found on the bottom first and then the power source to the top lug. Remember in line work, hook the ground first and remove it last. The rules apply here, attach the ground first, and then with an approved device or stick, attach it to the power source. The National Electric Safety Code states in rule 96 C that the total of grounds shall be no less than 4 lightning arrestor stations for every mile of line, not including grounds for transformers, services, and other equipment that requires grounds.

A lightning arrester is a device used on electrical power systems to protect the insulation and conductors of the system from the damaging effects of lightning.
The typical lightning arrester has a high voltage terminal and a ground terminal. When a lightning strike surges, travels along the power line to the arrester, the current from the arrestor diverts to earth ground.

In the book of Job, there is a story of a man who served God named Job. He was wealthy and he was a father to his children. Then events started to happen to him where he lost everything. His friends try to get him to blame God, but he would not, because he knew that sometimes “dreadful things happen to good people.” He knew that the only hope he had, was through his relationship with God.

In the Christian life, when we experience a lightning strike in the form of unwelcome news, unexpected events, the Word of God grounds our lives. The event will catch us off guard some days and other days we can see it coming a mile away. The event will try to shake our foundation and make us doubt the presence of God in our lives. Grounded in the Word, the promises of God will overshadow the problems of this world. Yes, in the name of Jesus, my God is in control of my life. Let the lightning strikes continue in my life, the Word will help me make it through the challenging times. Just as the lightning arrester on the line, lets the surge go to earth ground, so must the surge in our spiritual life will go to the Word of God. Now and then we will doubt or stumble, but we can always get up and dust ourselves off. Our scripture proclaims if we continue in faith grounded and settled, it will bring us through troubled times in life.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to stay grounded in your Word, while I travel in this life. I will experience times when I cannot bear the burden or pressures of the event in my life. Let your Word help me make it through and let me grow as I travel through these experiences. I can do it through any event with your help. In Jesus name I pray.
